At dawn people light a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful. The disposal of derelict things is where all old habits, the vices, attachment to relations and materials things are sacrificed in the sacrificial fire of the knowledge of Rudra, known as the Rudra Gita Gyan Yagya. Budizm-Hinduizm : The day after Makara Sankranti is celebrated as Kanuma. The origin of Kanuma in Andhra Pradesh is same as that of Govardhan Puja in other states. It is believed that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hills on the auspicious day of Kanuma to protect the people of Gokulam. The rituals of Kanuma Panduga are similar to that of Mattu Pongal in Tamil Nadu. The bulls and cows are decorated and worshipped on Kanuma as the day of Kanuma is dedicated for live-stock worship.
